Renew driver's license in Oklahoma with H1B receipt

My H1B and drivers license expires in 2 weeks. I have already applied for H1B extension few months ago and have a receipt number. Can I renew my driver's license with I 797C receipt notice in Oklahoma? I am not sure if this makes a difference but I also have I-140 approved.

I am not sure about OK, but the few states that I have been in and have friends, until you have approved H1B or EAD/AP you cannot get the drivers license renewed.

I have had friends riding along and not driving for the period between the drivers license expire and new drivers license issue.

Thanks for your response. I went to DMV today with the receipt notice, passport, previous I94, SSN and got an extension for 8 months. Here is the link I found helpful

My current drivers license expires on the same day as my H1 Visa (Sept 8th).  

 

I have received the visa extension beginning September 9th. 

 

DMV has refused to renew my drivers license now, and have asked me to come for renewal on September 9th. They have informed that they will not renew license before the start of my extension. 

 

Has anyone else faced this problem? Kindly respond.

Hi All,

My current visa expires on 9/27, and I have an approved extension valid from 9/28 onwards. The OK DPS office refused to renew it today (9/14) saying they can renew only on 9/28. How does this make sense when I have an approved extension? The extension is for the same work visa that I have. I couldn't find any valid documentation that the DPS requires that my current work permit has to expire before I can renew. Any thoughts?
