HI,

Im planning to goto Canada in march 2013 for my H1b Stamping. Prior to that im planning to go New York for Canada Visting Visa.

Can anyone let me know the procedure for scheduling an walk-in appointment(Temporary Resident Visa) at Canada Embassy in New York?

Also have a question, do the Canada Embassy in Detroit accepts walk-ins?

Thanks,

Ravi.

I went to the Canadian embassy in NYC for my Canadian visa to get my U.S consular appointment for my H1B. You must have all the completed paperwork ready (do not forget to hit the 'complete' button or whatever it was called on the adobe form when you fill out the canadian documentation -- it will generate a bar code and you must have that on the top of all of your paperwork when you give it to the embassy). Also you need a money order as they don't accept personal checks or cash.

The process itself was fairly simple, you line up outside the embassy by a silver post next to the street (not in front of the door) and then some personnel/officer or building security escorts the group of you in (depending on size - if there are 50 people it looks like they take you in, in groups of 20 or something similar). I didn't need an appointment, I went on Tuesday, got there an hour early (there was already 7 people in line) and was complete with submitting the paperwork within 1.25 hours, and we were 5 minutes late in going in. I was told to come back on Tuesday. I could not go so I had completed a form in advance to have a friend pick up my visa. I submitted a copy of the form with my paperwork on Tuesday AND gave my friend another copy of the form so she could pick up the visa - just in case the paper got lost.

Per my knowledge Canada embassy at New York and Los Angeles only accepts walk in. There is no need to schedule an appointment to apply for TRV at canada. Just fill up the forms, pay fess and get your visa.

They accept walk ins on a first come first serve basis from Monday to Friday between 8am to 10:30am.

Once applied you get back your stamped Canada TRV on your passport on the next day(except on Wedneday), they dont return passports on wednesdays.

Follow this link,

Hope this helps.
