SSN problem for H4 to H1B

Hi,

I need your help URGENTLY.

My situation is below::

My H1B reciept date is May 21st approved on Oct2nd 2012.Applied by Employer A.

My husband's H1B and My H4 extension receipt date May 22nd and approved on Oct19th 2012.Applied by Employer B.

(Original one was expiring on Sept 17th 2012 so he applied for extension)

I went to SSN office for applying SSN on Oct29th 2012 and they said it is still showing as H4. So couldn't apply.

I don't know the exact reason why it is on H4?Is it because of my recent H4 approval?

What can I do now? Can anybody please help me.

The petitions of your H1 and H4, I94 number is same but with different expiry dates. The latest one takes the priority. Speak to attorney & your employer, they would need to file COS from H4 to H1. You could apply SSN after COS is approved.
