My current visa stamp and I-94 expired June 1st 2012 with my former employer. Is it possible to leave the US and re-enter with a I-797 from my new employer and my old visa stamp? If so, what else would I need at the border? Would the I797, letter of employment, pay stubs and my old visa stamp be enough?

You need valid visa stamp to enter into US.
