H1B extension with new employer

Hi,

I have an approved I-140 (EB3) and planning to move to a consultant. I know for software consultants you have to how client letter for H1-B approval. I have a 6 months contract in hand and if I move to consultant am I going to get 3 years extension or 1 year, since only 1 year left in my 6 year H1b period.

Could you please advise.

If the client gives a letter stating that its a 6 month contract, you will get the extension for 6 months.
