Maximum stay duration calculation

I have got different variations of the maximum time you are allowed to stay in the US and want to check on that

- I have stayed on H1 for 3 years and will be completing 4 years on L1A in May 2012. I am told that even though I would have completed 7 years of stay, since I have 3 more years left on H1, I am entitled to 3 more additional years of stay in the US without having to go out of US for a year. Can you please let me know if that is true?

H1 and L1 stay are counted together. So in your case, you have to go back after completing 4 yrs on your L1A (total 7 yrs), you have to go back or change toa dependent status unless you have a pending GC.

Time spent in H1B status counts toward the 7 years maximum stay in L-1A status.
