H1 extension

Hi, I am on my 7th year of H1 and my h1 is going to expire on March 16th 2013.

I am planing to go to my home country in the month of December 2012.

I have asked my employer to file for extension in Oct 2012.

My question is - if i go for stamping in Dec 2012 with new H1 can i use it to get visa stamped

till the expiration of my new H1? or will i get visa till my current H1 expire?
