L1B expiring, I-129S expiring, I-94 valid, Petition valid

Hi

My L1B visa and I-129S are both expiring on 23-Sept-2012. I am on blanket L1B visa, company's petition is valid indefinitely. Both, my wife & I, have valid I-94 till 2014. I have not used my visa quota and stayed here only for 17 months in past 3 years.

Company is not filing for visa extension since I-94 validity is more than 6 months.

1. I have read in forum that I can continue to legally work till expiration of I-94 even with expired L1B visa. However, do I need I-129S to be renewed? What is the use of this document?

2. If my company files for H1B for me in April' 2013, will it affect my chances of H1B visa (or any future visa) because I am working based on I-94?
