Drive to Canada for Stamping@Montreal

I've a visa appointment(first H1b extension) scheduled on Aug 21st at Montreal and planning to drive(in my own car) from NY. Please guide me what all documents to carry in order to cross the border to Canada.

Also please let me know the best affordable accommodation near the consulate.
