H1B visa renewal Issue

Hello Friends,

Please guide me in this situation:

My second H1B is filed for renewal now ( case pending ) at this date. My current Project is cancelled which I came to know last week and so there is possibility of potential layoff, unless they find me some other project. To avoid layoff I am currently using my PTOs. My First H1 expired on 03Aug. I have received the USCIS I-129 pending case receipt from my company lawyers. That maintains my status but currently I am eagerly awaiting the H1B approval receipt, which would allow me to look for other jobs.

My questions are:

1. In case the layoff happened prior to getting the approval receipt, what should I do? Will the company revoke the application. Will I have to contact the company lawyers directly to get the H1B approval receipt I-797. Would the company cause any issues for providing me approval receipt?
   
2. Can I change jobs while H1B is still pending approval?
   
3. In case of layoff, what are other possibilities to maintain visa status?
