Non profit To Profit H1b Transfer start date gap

I worked for university on non profit h1b and now porting it to for profit. My application is now pending. I know that I need to be in the quota which I am for normal company h1b. I also know that as soon as my h1 gets approved i am not supposed to work until October 1st. But say my h1 gets approved in August 1st week and I do not work for the company can I still remain in US with a Valid status assuming that my status was valid before and my last employer has already revoked my visa(which i dont need anyways). Or do I have to travel outside US and then come back September end to start working again on Oct 1st.

My name is Abhishek, i have a question on the portability of Non Profit H1b to H1b, for this to happen do we have apply like anyone else in Apr and wait until October 1st to start working under Profit H1b(non cap exempt H1 b). Or is there any way to convert a Non-Profit H1 B (cap-exempt) to Profit H1b (non cap-exempt)

You can start working for the new, non-exempt employer from Oct. 1 on.

Until then, you would have to continue working for the cap-exempt employer or leave the country and come back on Oct. 1.
