Canadian Embassy in D.C stops issuing Visitor Visa to Foreign Nationals in the U.S

My friend who flew from out of state to apply for a Canadian Visa in Washington D.C has been instructed to go and submit his application at Canadian Consulate in New York.

Canadian Consulate used to issue visas on the same day however going forward needs 15 days to process and will deliver by mail. The applicant can chose to pay for premium private postal services like Fedex or UPS.

This would be a big roadblock for lot of IV netizens who have plans to go & get their H1B visa stamped in the US or even to just visit Canada.

As of June 18, 2012, the visa office of the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C., will no longer receive Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) applications from the general public; applications for a Travel Document (Permanent Resident Abroad) (PRTD) or applications for Verification of Entry. It will become a specialized office which will receive stand-alone Temporary Resident Permit (TRP), Rehabilitation and Authorization to Return to Canada (ARC) applications for residents of the United States (U.S.) living East of the Mississippi River, Puerto Rico, Bermuda, St. Pierre et Miquelon, and the U.S. Virgin Islands; and TRV applications from embassies, the United States government and international intergovernmental organizations only."

aaargghh.. this is another head ache now, I'm waitin for my Canada visa since June 1st, 14th business day today! i've my visa on 27th. Still a week to go!

Where did you submit your Canadian Visa application and did you mail it to them? I have mailed mine 2 days ago; My US visa appointment is for the 26th of this month in Ottawa.

I submitted my application in Los Angeles CA and got my passport (w/ canada TRV) with in 1 week !!

Or just original passport with other document copies are fine?

If you are asking if you can go walking to the Canadian Consulate in NY - why not?

If you are asking if you can walk to Canada after you get the visa - yes you can.

Can you rephrase your question? Not sure I understood your question correctly.

I have sent my documents (copies) and of course original passport along with the application and am still waiting for a response. Will update once I hear from them.

Washington D.C has stopped taking the applications completely. Have to check if they want only one office say for ex: Buffalo to issue visit visas.

The NY Canadian consulate website states that they are not accepting applications for Temporary Resident Permit, which I believe is different from Temporary Resident Visa. I have mailed them my documents for a visa, early this week and am waiting to hear.

Just be aware that the Canadian consulate in NY took about two weeks to process my temporary visitor visa.
