EAD extension while I-94 is expiring

Hi,

I'd appreciate any inputs on this topic. My wife's EAD/Visa/I-94 data is as follows:

EAD Expiring on: 10th October 2012

L2 Visa Valid till: 13th October 2013

I-94 Valid till: 15th December 2012, currently under extension through Form I-539. With a 2.5 month SLA, this is expected to be done only around early September 2012

Question: If she applies for extension of her EAD now, will the EAD be extended for a year (considering the L2 Visa expiry date) or until 15th December 2012 (the date when her current I-94 expires)?
