H1 to H4,H1 expires

Hi

My 6 years h1 expires end of this month.My PERM is being audited from feb 1 2012.

Do I need to have some time pending on H1 for h1 renewal after 365 days after PERM filing.

Meaning can I go on on H4 from july 1 and be able to have h1 extension 365 days after feb 1 or I should change to H4 as soon as possible.
