Is it possible to work independently on an EAD ?

Hi,

I am curently on an L1A and my employer has applied for my GC. My I-140 was approved last month and I am going to apply for my 485, AP and EAD next week. I would like to know if I can work independently (1099) or incorporate a firm and run a business once my EAD is approved, or if I need to wait for the GC process to complete fully before doing so.

My wife has also applied for 485/AP/EAD as a dependent(she is currently on an L2 dependent visa). Would she be able to work in either of the 2 scenarios that I have stated above for myself ?
