L1 to H1B conversion without Change of status

Hello ,

While Converting from L1 to H1B , can I apply for H1B (get through the quota) and get the change of status later(say Jan) ?

Either file now without change of status and change status later, or file for a Jan start date directly. A start date of up to 6 months in future can be requested.

COS can be applied on any date within 6 months of filing. Assuming OP's employer file H1b today (May 23, 2012), they can have the COS (start of H1b) any date between Oct 1st and Nov 23, 2012. Oct 1st is the latest date to start the H1b and it's not the mandatory date.
