started H1B with the new employer, how long can I be paid while petition is pending

MD,switched from one hospital to another.I heard at the new employer I can be paid up to 6 months while new H1B visa approval( hopefully) is pending?

Is this a general rule or just my employer's?

An H1B employer's obligation to pay the required wage begins as of the start date on the H1B approval notice. However, if the beneficiary begins working for the employer upon the filing of the petition (which is permitted in certain circumstances), the petitioner must begin paying the required wage from the date the beneficiary actually begins working.
