na80 Posted May 2, 2012 Report Share Posted May 2, 2012 I am switching jobs (H1B to H1B, very similar jobs) and the new employer is filing the petition today. They want me to join as soon as possible. When is the earliest I can join? I have been reading this forum and haven't found a concrete answer. Can I join as soon as the petition is filed or do I have to wait for the receipt notice? How long is the receipt taking these days for normal processing? Thanks in advance! Link to comment

When will you get a receipt? - You should get a receipt in 2 days after sending the documents to USCIS You can then track the status on their website. Normal processing can take 1-3 months for approval, but that should not stop you from joining. Link to comment

For PP, attorney gets email of Receipt notice/number first & then USCIS sends hard copy. so, ask your attorney about receipt number. Link to comment
