F1-OPT extension vs i-485 EAD.

My wife is in her f1-opt and planning on applying for opt extension.

Does anyone know If USCIS allow to apply for OPT extension when EAD (through i-485) was approved while i-485 is still pending?

I really don’t like to use her EAD through i-485 while the i-485 is pending, our main goal is to be in the status until we get the green card.

If we use her EAD and then something goes wrong in the pending i-485, she will be out of status and doesn’t have any back-up like H1-B.

The F1 does not allow immigration intent. An OPT extension would therefore most likely get denied since she has an I-485 pending.

This whole "have a backup if the I-485 gets denied" is, quite frankly, nothing more than paranoia. And even more so with an F1, because the F1 doesn't allow immigration intent.
