Should H4 visa also be changed while H1 transfer applied

Hi I am moving to a new company who is filing my H1B visa transfer under premium processing.

I have my wife and kid with me here as well, who are both on H4 visas.

Should their visas also be changed or will they automatically be changed?

Both me and they have lots of time left on our visas by the way.

Nothing will change automatically. Either you need to file their petition along with your H1 transfer or if they've valid visa stamp then they can leave the country & come back based on your New I-797.

Her H4 is valid till the expiration . This means , if you change your H1 on (say) May 1, 2012 and she has a H4 I-94 till (say) Oct 1, 2013, she is good till that date. If she travels outside, she can return provided she has a valid H4 Visa . Once her current H4 expires , she will have to apply for an extension using your latest H1
