Things todo after getting Green Card

Recommended Posts

Hello Experts,

I recently received my GC. Thanks to everyone for all your valuable inputs. I have updated I-9 with my current employer.

Please let me know what other formalities that need to be completed.

I heard/read that we need to :

  • Get passport stamped at local USCIS office
  • Apply for new SSN

Are these mandatory?

Good luck to everyone undergoing AOS.

Thanks

N

You dont apply for new SSN rather just remove restrictions like Non-Immigrant Worker.

The application form is the same, though.

They just make a copy of the GC, and in a few weeks, a new social security card without restrictions arrives.

An I-551 stamp is not needed if you have the actual card.

And of course, enjoy the freedom :)

please consult a lawyer.

you will only need passport stamp if you need to travel any time soon before you receive your physical green card.

you will want to update your SS card to remove "not valid without authorization" on your new replacement card (same number).
