F1 to H1 With a different field of study.

Hi,

I have done Bachelors in Pharmacy from India and I came to US on F1 for doing masters in chemistry. I am currently on OPT and I worked in a pharmaceutical company for 5 months and currently I am working in an IT company as QA Analyst since July 2011. I am full timer with wipro and working for an american client and wipro is taking care of my H1. Now, I am worried if my background may cause a problem for my H1B visa approval.

Can anyone assess my situation and suggest what might possibly happen?

The OPT allows you to work in your field of study only. Since you are working outside of your field of study, you are already out of status, i.e., illegal.

You need to stop working immediately.

And for the H1, you also need to have a degree in the field the H1 is in.

I suggest you see a good immigration lawyer ASAP.
