I- 485 filed as derivative - Need H1 extension after 6 years

I applied for I- 485 as derivative spouse and currently my PD is not current. My H1 will expire next year in October which is my 6 th year on H1.

I have not applied/started I-140 for my GC process.

Question: Can I apply for H1 extension based on I-485 which i applied as derivative spouse? Or do i have to apply for I-140 before 365 days in order for me to apply for H1 extension after 6 years?

Why would you need an H1 extension?

You can get an EAD, which allows you to work just fine.
