If you leave USA during H1b processing, you won't get I94 attached with your I797 and you will be forced for consular processing. I94 not attached means your COS or H1b extension is denied. Adding to this, this means you will need to go for stamping before you try to get back. Its not clear if this is first time petition or an extension. Link to comment
