Significant difference between filing in India and filing in the US

I am currently on my OPT which would run out on the 1st of June 2012. I have been in negotiations with an Indian company which has operations in both United States and India. I was wondering if there is any significant difference between filing for a H1B here in the United States and filing back in India. Is the process the same or is one significantly better than the other.

Also I have been told that once a company files for your H1B in the United States, the OPT status automatically extends till October 1st provided your H1B petition is approved. Are there any travel restrictions on the OPT extension?

Nice user id.

The way the applications are processed will not be any different if you file from here or from India.

However you will have to go for stamping if you file from India and cannot comeback before Oct 1st.

If you file from here you will be automatically extended between Jun-Oct.

It is generally not recommended to travel on cap-gap extension.
