As a primary applicant, I am expecting to receive my EAD in the current month. Can I do a second job/freelancing along with my existing job?

In principle, yes. But check your employment contract. A lot of employment contracts require that you get company approval for a side job.

One of the reasons is that a company would not like it if you moonlighted for a competitor...
