Name Change while moving to new visa

Hello,

I would like to know that - Is that possible to change or add the surname after marriage to the existing name while moving/applying for new visa such as if currently on Student visa and applying for H1 or H4 visa, then Is it possible to add the surname to existing name while applying for new visa.

Suppose, present name : Fnu Ishika

New name wanted after marriage : Ishika Chawla

Then when, and how to change the surname after marriage simultaneously while moving to another visa.

Please assist and reply in this matter. Whats the procedure to do that.

1) get your PP updated with the new surname/ last name. This is easy task. Just follow the instructions and go to your nearby consulate. Mandatory doc is your old PP, marriage certificate and address proof and your husbands PP and US ID proof. That's it.

2) now whatever you do with your visa. Transfer/ new visa / visa stamping will all get the new name from your new PP. Since your immigration doc is driven by ur PP. it will reflect everywhere automatically.

3) After you get your immigration papers with the new name., don't forget to get it updated in your SSN and Drivers lisence.

This is all the steps you need to follow. I personally went through this. Nothing to worry.

So, after getting new passport with the spouse surname, what the status of old passport. Is it still valid or no?

As the old passport has valid visa having 'Fnu Ishika' as name.
