Difficult I-94 issue

Hi Friends:

I re-entered US after visa stamping in India in October 2011. My I-797 H1B was untill July 2012.

The visa officer stamped October 2011 on the I-94 card and this was never noticed untill now.

What do I do?

Contacted a few lawyers and all advice go back to India immediately and go to the consulate?

Is this the right thing to do?

I would appreciate ur input please.

What is the reason for shorter duration? Was your passport expiring or something? There should be 2 dates on the I-94, one date of entry and another date of expiry. Are both the dates Oct 2011? If so you can try visiting a nearby CBP deferred inspection site at an international airport and they may be able to correct it for you.
