Add dependent In GC

Hi,

My green card process has already started but just in the intial stage and I'm currently in H1B status my spouse and son though had a H4 visa never had entered US and now their visa has expired which needs to be renewed soon. I have another 3 years validity for my H1B visa.

Question

Do my spouse and son need a H4 Visa and also should be in US when it's time for me to include them in my green card process

or

having just a H4 Visa and did not enter US then can I include them in my Green Card process

or

they having just valid passport then can I include them in my green card process.

You expert advise on this issue will be greatly appreciated.
