H4 to L1A status change possible while in US?

I have a valid L1A.

My wife has a valid H1 and she is working in US.

My current assignment is over.

Going back to India on vacation. Next assignment in US may take time.

Can I reenter on H4 and then start working on the basis of my L1A once the assignment is finalized? If yes,what process do I need to follow?
