L1 in lieu of B1

I worked in the US last year based on my L1-B visa, and now I am back home in India after my assignment in the US ended. I need to go to the US again, this time only for a short business meeting. Can I use the L1-B visa (it is still valid) to do this? or do I have to apply for a B1?

In other words, can I use an L1-B in-lieu of an B1

The L-1B visa can be used if you will be employed by the U.S. entity in the capacity described in your L-1 petition. If you are simply coming to attend a business meeting, you would ordinarily either need to enter on visa waiver (if applicable) or you would need to obtain a B-1 visa.
