221g pending and H1 B about to Expire

Hi

I went to Visa Interview on May 16 2011 and I work on EVC Model. VO gave me 221 g Yellow at Hyd Consulate. VO took my I797,I129,LCA,Vendor Agreements, etc and gave my passport and told that they need some time to review my docs and will contact me via email on when I need to send my passport.

Its been close to 7 months and I am still waiting. My H1 B validity is going to Expire on Mar 2012.

Can I apply for H1 B Extension if my employer agrees.

Does anyone have instances while visa got approved after H1 B Expires ??

Please suggest me with some proper solutions.
