H1 to H4 COS ( what is the status in the interim)

Hi All,

I am on H1 and planning to quit work on Nov 30 and file H4 on Dec 1 by filing I539 form. My question is in the interim when I am not working and my COS application is in progress what status I would be considered, will it H1 or H4? I mean will this time of COS under progress will be counted in my 6 years of H1 period?
