L1 Expires in 50days. What is the probable duration of I94? Urgent pls.

Hi, my husband would have to travel to US on a long term assignment on L1B visa. His Visa is valid till 7th Jan 2012. Now we would like to know what would be the probable duration of stay would be given on I94. He went to US twice earlier and stayed for a period of less than 1 year (8 months precisely). I need this information because if I have to travel as dependent, I need to resign my current Job in India and join him. Is there any risk involved?

Did he apply at the consulate under his employer's L-1 Blanket? Or, did his employer file an individual petition on his behalf?
