AVR rule_visiting Canada under H1b/opt category for 2 days

Hi,

I have heard there's a AVR rule where we can travel to Canada for a week and return back to USA if you are going for tourist visa, if someone knows and been experienced about AVR, can you please provide me the answers below:

1. is AVR rule is still valid if I am going to Canada for im1(immigration to canada)

2. since I am on H1b with valid i797 and i94 details on the same i797 is still called as a valid i797 and i94 as I do not have original i94 card which was submitted for h1 extension.

3. My wife who came on H4, and then did transfered to F1 and now she is on OPT, with valid i797 and i94 details on same i797 is still valid for AVR since she also submitted her original i94 card for filing f1b status.

Please advice if AVR does really apply to our family, if not I got no choice other then going for stamping in canada or forgetting PR of canada.
