Chennai H1B stamping experience

Hi ! I would like to share my H1B stamping experience.

Consulate : Chennai

Interview date : 7 Oct 2011

Docs asked : None

Muslim name: Yes

Clearance received: Oct 18

Passport received: Oct 21

I was already working in US on H1B with no stamping.

In the past, I was on L1B and also working on L2 EAD.

I visited India on vacation and I was postponing this trip just to avoid stamping (after seeing the threads on this forum) but finally decided to visit my family. My interview was very simple. VO just asked my employer name and also asked how long have I been in US (~ 7 years) and handed over a pink slip.

She said it would take 4 weeks and asked my return flight date.She noted down my return flight date and said that she will put a request to expedite the process.

I was sent to another counter (No 32 in Chennai if I remember correctly) and the lady asked about countries visited and details of my only sister. I have not visited any other country and my sister is a college student in India.

Finally, I was relieved to receive my passport (Oct 21) before my flight date and I am back in USA.
