Change of status H1 to H4 - without lawyer

Hello,

I am on h1b currently and working for the company. this is my 4th year of H1b.

Due to maternity purpose I want to change my status to H4. My current H1b is going to expire in October 2011.

My questions are:

-- Can I come back to H1b after one year ?

-- At that time do I need to wait to April or I can apply H4 to H1 any time and start working immidiatly ?

-- Can I do change of H1 to h4 status without lawyer ?

I will appriciate any answer.

You will be able to apply for H1 anytime and not wait until April but you won't be able to start working until your H1 is approved.
