Travel during H1B transfer, Notice of receipt in hand

I have a valid H1B (till Nov 2013) and I'm in the process of switching jobs right now. My new employer has applied for the visa transfer and I have the I-797C Receipt Notice. I don't have the approval notice yet and that seems to take a few weeks. Can I travel out of the country before I get the approval notice? Is it okay to travel with a valid H1B and a receipt notice? I will be coming back to the US before the approval notice comes through.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
