After H-1 transfer can i work with the receipt

Hi,

I am working for company A and my H1 Extn. is due in 2 months. If i file H1 transfer through company B, and in the next two months(my H1 expires in two months with Company A), if i don't get my H1 approved with company B, am i eligible to work for Company B with the receipt?? or do i have to have my H1 approved with company B??
