H1 to H4, while H1B extension is pending.

Hello all,

I am currently on 3rd year of H1B, my H1B is expiring at end of this month (Aug 31 2011). I have initially came to US on H4 visa in Jan 2008 and started on H1B from oct 2008.

My employer has filed for an extension and I am still awaiting response.

Here are my questions:

a) If my extension gets denied? Will I be out of status? I also heard that this out of status might cause trouble with GC processing.

I work as consultant

b) So to avoid getting chance of denied H1B, can I file for H1 to H4 change status? even though my H1B extension is in progress.

c) If I get a H1B denial, what is the timeframe I have to quickly change to H4? ( I have all the documents, so I will apply Change of status, without going out of country.

What are my options to continue stay without isssues like falling out of status etc.
