Chilsva
Did anyone notice recent rise in L1B consultants? I work on OPT (2nd year) for a fortune 500 Biotech company through a consulting company. Many consultants with me are on a 3 year L1B visa, which can be extended up to 5 years in total. According to them, they are not limited by the quota (no L1 quota), can transfer to another company/site instantly without any amendments and can also file for GC like H1bs. Is there a way to switch to L1 from OPT? I don't see any advantage going for H1b. Let me know asap. Quote Link to comment

Zodiac System
The L1B visa, also known as the intracompany transferee visa, allows foreign companies to transfer certain employees to work for their United States parent, subsidiary, affiliate, or branch office. The visa is for professionals who possess specialized knowledge. L1 visa holders can only undertake intra-company transfers within the same employer. I dont think it will work for an OPT candidate. JoeF
To qualify for an L1, you have to have worked for the company outside the US for at least a year in the previous 3 years. Quote Link to comment
