Hello,

I have recently been laid off and am considering transitioning to a B1/B2 visa status. I have a couple of questions regarding this transition:

  1. I currently hold an older B1/B2 visa that is set to expire in 2025. Would it be possible for me to transfer to this older visa and continue to stay in the US? Alternatively, should I apply for a new visa? Could you please outline the pros and cons of each option?

  2. Once I secure employment, would it be feasible for me to transition from a B1 to an H1B visa while remaining in the US, or would this require consular processing?
