Aayush2023
My change of status from L1B to F1 was approved with change if status effective date in November 2023 with an I-20 with course start date in October end 2023. In October begining 2023, due to some reasons I deferred my program start to Spring Semester 2024 and hence got a new I-20. The SEVIS Id, University and Course are all same in old and new I-20. Do I need to notify USCIS or file the Change of Status petition again with new I-20 ? I am also visiting India to get F1 Visa Stamp in November 2023 after change of status is effective. Can this cause issues in getting the F1 Stamp? Quote Link to comment
Attorney_9
Once your status changes to F-1, you would need to make normal progress toward completing your course of study within 30 days of the validity start date in order to maintain your F-1 status. If you do not intend to begin your program then you should depart the U.S. within 30 days of the COS. When you apply for an F-1 visa to return to the U.S. you would need an I-20 marked for Initial Attendance since you did not begin your program. You would likely benefit from discussing your situation with an immigration attorney. Our attorneys are well-equipped to address the issues you may face. Quote Link to comment
Parteep
Hi, I'm currently on L1-B and have an approved I-140. My current L1-B expires (Max out) in JUL 2024. Planning to change status to F1 in May/June 2024. 1. Can i also apply for day 1 CPT ? 2. Do I need to have previous master degree to apply for CPT ? Quote Link to comment
JoeF
No real university does CPT from day one. An F1 is for studying. Stay away from shady institutions that lure people with day one CPT. You'd kill your future in the US. Quote Link to comment
