can we enter USA with old h1b visa stamp even though i have h1b visa extension approved

My petition for H1b extension was approved while i was in india and i did travelled to multiple countries with Old visa stamping since i had my old staming available upto July 2023. Recently i have applied for a position and they came back and told me that i have been staying illegally in states from July 2023 but my extension I797A was approved until May 2025 with I94 on it. Can you let me know is it legal to travel with Old stamping?

Yes you can use an old valid H1B stamp to reenter but you need to show the new I-797 to be readmitted until May 2025. If you did present the May 2025 I-797 it may be possible to get CBP to correct your entry I-94 card. You may want to speak to an immigration attorney about your situation in more detail.
