neel8000
Generally most of the birth certificate issued during 1980’s are hand written or filled by hand in a municipality form . If the birth certificate has any corrections, then is this a problem ? Example : let’s say in the name field of birth certificate if there was a name say ‘XYZ’ and then it is strike off by pen and new name is written ‘ABC’ adjacent to the striked off old name. Also, if there is a typo in the name ? In that case what we have to do ? Quote Link to comment
Attorney_16
The USCIS and Department of State go by the Department of State's Visa Reciprocity Schedule for civil documents for each country, such as the birth certificate. It is generally OK that the birth certificate is hand written. If there are corrections written in by the government, that is generally acceptable. If there is information missing or a typographical error, generally secondary evidence such as affidavits and school certificates/church records/other government records can be used to support it. Sometimes people are able to get typographical errors fixed by contacting the municipality. Quote Link to comment
