Traveling on F-1 OPT with H1B approved

Can I travel on my F-1 OPT visa before my H1B start date and reenter the US on the F-1 visa just a week before the H1B start date? 

This page says https://www.murthy.com/2016/06/30/students-should-not-travel-during-cap-gap-period/ it is permitted but some others say it raises questions on non-immigrant intent and officer at port of entry may deny it?

Yes, I have the same question. 

I believe it depends on the type of H1B filed.

1. If it is change of status then your F1 is no longer valid and you can not use F1 OPT to travel back to the US before and after your H1B start date.

2. If it is counselor notification/service then -

            a. If you have got your H1B stamped already then then you have to use your H1B

            b. If you have not got your H1B stamped even though your H1B is approved under counselor notification then "I dont know", I am struggling with that too.
