My L1A maxing out, Can I stay in US on H4 receipt notice ?

Hi, My L1A visa is maxing out (completing 7 years) in 2 months from now. My wife is on H1B, and she has an approved I-140. If I convert to H4 (as my wife’s dependent), and if I dont get my H4 approval before my L1 maxes out, am I allowed to stay in US on a H4 I-539 receipt notice even if my L1 maxes out ? Or do I need to leave US ?

This is with the assumption that H4 conversion can be done online and receipt notice can be obtained almost immediately. So assuming that I could apply for H4 conversion just a few weeks before max out date and get the receipt notice almost immediately. Please correct me if I am wrong.
