Visitor Visa Extension Query

Hello,

My mother has come to US with a Visitor's Visa in month of January. Her 6 months of expiration will be in June. We just got to know that my younger brother would be having his convocation in the month of August. The question that we had was is it feasible to apply for an extension in this case?

Few concerns that we had about extension:

1. If we apply for an extension and its denied then my mother would ideally be Out Of Status post the month of June. So even if she goes back post denial would it cause any problems if she comes back some time later in future?

2. If we apply for an extension and the application is still in processing, can she still stay in US post the month of June?

Another workaround:
Lets say if we don't apply for an extension and if she goes to India now in month of May and then comes back in August for convocation? Is that allowed?

Any help in answering these questions would be highly appreciated.
