guest33
Hello, I would like to travel to India from the US due to a family emergency. I did some research on Covid requirements and per my understanding, I would need to get a RT-PCR test 72 hours prior to departure in order to be exempted from institutional quarantine. I have had a hard time finding an appointment for the testing. I discovered that some places offer saliva-based testing as opposed to nasal/throat swabs. -Does anybody know if saliva based PCR testing is accepted by Indian authorities? -Are there any testing or quarantine requirements on returning from India? I understand that there are state specific requirements and in CA, a 14-day self-quarantine is recommended but not required, per my research. I would really appreciate it if folks who have traveled to India recently can provide any feedback. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
question123
Am in the same situation, mother in ICU, i haven't found anything useful online yet, trying to figure out how to avoid institutional quarantine. Worst case is to get rapid test prior to flying. Edited November 25, 2020 by question123 Quote Link to comment
guest33
Based on my research, RT-PCR swab test is the best bet for travel. Although pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens offer such testing, it is best to go to a private clinic/lab to schedule testing and get results within 72 hours of travel - this will exempt you from institutional quarantine in India. Again, the requirements vary from state to state and you will have to check the local requirements. The following are some useful links for travel-related testing. https://hawaiicovid19.com/travel-partners/ https://thepointsguy.com/guide/where-to-get-covid-test-travel/ https://www.wendyperrin.com/how-to-get-a-quick-covid-test-for-travel/ Hope this helps.
