Travel outside US while H1 to H4 COS is pending

I am on H1 and lost my job. My wife is also on H1. I plan to travel out of the US (wife will remain in the US) shortly. I plan to apply for H4 before traveling but may not be able to wait until it's approved prior to traveling. Looks like the COS will be cancelled if I travel outside prior to approval. However I wanted to know if that will affect my chances for B1/B2 for entry into US at later date? I am planning to go to Canada for taking up a job offer but will need to come back temporarily for taking care of some logistics. If it is going to complicate my chances for a B1/B2 at a later date, I plan to not apply for H4 and instead leave immediately after the 60 day grace period. Please advise.
